Making a Difference at Tabasamu Childcare and Orphanage

At Tabasamu Childcare and Orphanage, our mission is to provide love, care, and support to orphaned and underserved children, and one of the pillars of our success is the incredible community of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to make a difference in these children’s lives. In this “Volunteer Spotlight” article, we want to introduce you to some of the remarkable individuals who have touched the hearts of our children and families.

Meet Sarah Thompson

Sarah Thompson, a dedicated volunteer, has been part of the Tabasamu family for over five years. She first came to us as a college student looking for a way to give back to her community. Over the years, Sarah has become an integral part of our organization, and her impact is immeasurable.

Sarah spends her weekends at Tabasamu, helping with a range of activities, from tutoring the children in their studies to organizing art and music sessions. Her enthusiasm and warmth have made her a beloved figure among the kids. She says, “These children are incredibly resilient and full of potential. They just need a little extra love and guidance, and it’s been an honor to be a part of their journey.”

John and Emily: A Family of Volunteers

Volunteering at Tabasamu Childcare and Orphanage is not limited to individuals. Families like John and Emily Smith have also made it a part of their lives. John, Emily, and their two children, Lily and Ethan, have been volunteering together for the past three years.

John and Emily believe that volunteering as a family is an excellent way to instill the values of empathy and kindness in their children. They often spend their weekends organizing outdoor activities, picnics, and sports events for the children at Tabasamu. “It’s not just about giving back,” says John. “It’s about teaching our kids the importance of caring for others and making a positive impact in the world.”

Beyond Borders: International Volunteers

Tabasamu Childcare and Orphanage also welcomes international volunteers who come from various parts of the world to contribute to our cause. Maria Gonzalez, a volunteer from Spain, shares her experience, “I came to Kenya with a desire to explore and give back. What I found at Tabasamu was a second family and a purpose.”

Maria has been helping with language lessons, introducing the children to Spanish, and sharing her culture with them. International volunteers like Maria bring a global perspective to our organization and broaden the horizons of our children.
